Effortlessly Learn Swimming at Any Age | Breeswim Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Swim Lessons

In recent years, there’s been a massive increase in adults embracing the challenge of adult swim lessons. Whether it’s for fitness, safety, or leisure, the benefits of swimming are evident.

At Breeswim, we specialise in providing a supportive and personalised learning environment that caters specifically to adults. The unique teaching approach ensures that anyone, regardless of age or prior experience, can learn to swim confidently. When you couple this with likeminded individuals it creates an enviroment where it remains enjoyable to learn.

Can You Teach Yourself to Swim as an Adult?

While self-learning may seem tempting, professional instruction is invaluable. But is it doable!?

At any professioanl program, instructors guide you through each step, using techniques tailored to adult learners. This approach helps overcome common hurdles faster and more efficiently than going it alone.

As a teacher adults are the easiest to teach. Why? Its easier to ‘paint the picture’ of the process. You can explain WHY we introduce certain skills and – once understand the process and know what needs to be done, you have the confidence to introduce these skills in your own time.

My advice – Find out what you need to do specifically to progress – then practice outside of the formal setting.

Is it Difficult to Learn Swimming After 30?

Many adults worry it’s too late to learn to swim after 30, definitely not.

Most of the time, our bodies are capable of learning new skills at any age. If you can focus on gentle, gradual progressions, addressing both the physical and mental aspects – this will ensure comfort and ultimately success in the water.

Main Benefits of Adult Swim Lessons:

Swimming offers extensive benefits:

  • Physical Health: It’s a low-impact exercise that improves cardiovascular health, flexibility, and strength. ✔️
  • Mental Well-being: Reduces stress and anxiety, enhancing overall mental health.✔️
  • Safety: Equips you with vital safety skills, potentially life-saving in water situations.✔️
  • Social Opportunities: Swimming can be a social activity, helping build community ties.✔️

Challenges Faced by Adult Learners:

Starting from scratch can be daunting. Lets break down some of the these common challenges and your best approach to get past them:

Challenge: Fear of water or swimming can be significant, whether this be from an accident earlier in life or youve never had an opporuntiy to try it out.

Solution: Shallow water. One of the best pieces of advice I can give you an experienced instructor is to find a volume of water where you can stand, sit or lie down comfortably.

Being able to stand up and walk will give you the confidence to introduce the basics like breath control, floating etc. Before any of this happens your only aim is Water Familiarisation.

Challenge: Finding Time – Yep we all live busy lives.

Solution: There are so many programs to choose from. Some programs run early morning classes and others late afternoon. Enquire with at least 4 different programs to find one that suits your schedule. At Breeswim we offer flexible scheduling to fit swimming lessons into busy adult lives.

A Success Story:

A lady called Dewi joined Breeswim in 2023. With a determination to overcome her fear of water and master the challenging breathing techniques of freestyle swimming.

Despite starting from scratch, Dewi’s commitment to her weekly lessons we  focused on balancing her strokes and introducing effective use of her breath control.

With personalised guidance from David, she soon transformed her confidence and celebrated a significant milestone as she completed her first full lap without stopping.

Dewi’s journey from a curious beginner to a confident swimmer shows how Breeswim’s programs tailor both effective teaching and strategies that empower adult learners to achieve their goals. Well done Dewi!!

Conclusion:

Teaching methods are built on understanding an individuals needs. Whether classes are introduced as private sessions or groups sessions, the lesson plan has to identify the goal of the session.

Once this is identified the student has to be able to understand what we’re trying to acheive and how we are going to get there.

Once the swimmer understands the skills and the approach the confidence will grow rapidly. Find yourself an knowledgable teacher that will cater to your needs.
