Since the start of 2019, I have really started to notice the number of parents distracted while poolside with their children.

From mobile phones to catching up with friends, distraction has now become a rare issue that needs to be addressed consistently around public pools.

Have you ever been to a swimming lesson and seen a near-drowning because the teacher turned their back for a split second? It happens more regularly than you think.

It’s as important to supervise your children while playing as it is at swimming lessons.

This article was published in October 2018 but I feel it is becoming more and more prevalent as time goes on.

“Parents transfixed by their phones and oblivious to their children’s attempts to show them a new swimming move are among scenes reported by pool users before the signs went up. But life savers says device distraction can be deadly, with lifeguards increasingly having to fish out kids who are not being supervised by mums and dads.”
